Several photographers whose work I enjoy and opinions I respect are angry that Flickr has added video support. I won’t be joining your anti-video groups, but that doesn’t mean we can’t agree to disagree.
I address this to those of you who have, in protest, removed your photos from Flickr:
You’ve killed your favorites.
A favorite is a very specific link to your work. It says “here’s why I like this photographer”. I frequently look through my favorites and catch up with photographers whose work I enjoy. Sometimes, I even buy their stuff.
By removing your photos, you’ve told people who like your work to forget about you.
By trying to draw attention to your cause, you’ve lost attention for your work.
Consider it an unintended consequence.
