Forget the Vote, Let’s Dance

Foxy Shazam has made me forget my election year malaise.

T is for Techno

Do you remember techno? I remember techno.

A couple friends have recently reminded me that I actually liked techno, before there were too many indecipherable genres to choose from. Back when it was all just “techno”, it was amazing and I’m more than a little nostalgic for the days when the whole rave scene seemed so innocent and people talked like there was a lot more “e” and smart drugs than there ever were. I got sucked in by the remixes. Hey, I was a nerdy highschool kid from the sticks, it’s amazing I heard about anything electronic.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, I don’t have to dig out my tape player (really, this was pre-CD for me):

“This is Sparta” would’ve fit right in, in the early 90s:

An Open Letter to The Wombats

Dear The Wombats,

I live in the United States of America and I would like to purchase your album A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation. I would prefer not to resort to buying a CD and waiting to have it shipped across the Atlantic ocean. I’d like to download it as soon as possible in a reasonable format like MP3 or even in the stupidly proprietary Apple AAC format. Apple’s iTunes store, however, will not allow me to purchase this album, because I don’t have a UK billing address.

I’m open to any suggestions you may have that will result in my money getting to you and your music getting to me.

Thank you for your time.

The Wombats

The Wombats are more fun than they have any right to be. I secretly fear that British pop music proves they are superior to us and then I remember that we still have Matt and Kim and Be Your Own Pet and I start to feel better.

YFA @ Larry’s

Did I just make a flyer advertising a show at a venue using a picture from its own bathroom? Yes. Yes, I did.

2 Great Tastes That Go Great Together x 2

First we have the sounds of the Butthole Surfers mixed with the sights of Logan’s Run:

Then, we have Mudhoney’s “Touch Me, I’m Sick” performed by KLF cohorts Atomizer with a few Daleks thrown in for good measure:

There are so many good/bad things in there, my head may explode.

That’s Detsörgsekälf.

This is their video for In The Blood Of A Thousand Virgins Rises Chevy Chase.

Sure, Chevy Chase isn’t dead, but that’s no reason not to resurrect him.

Whoa… I don’t think I’ve ever blogged someone else’s photo before.

Queen Mae and The Bells

I don’t know how to describe Queen Mae and The Bells short of “wow”. I haven’t seen them live yet, but I can’t wait to get a chance to do so. Based on their video and photos of their other projects, I’m completely sold on the whole thing; the percussion, the screaming, the costumes. Sign me up.
