ONE: I’m still fairly ambivalent about the recent FISA brouhaha, but I do respect Obama’s reason for voting the way he did. I can say that, because he’s written a helpful article on the subject titled My Position On FISA.
TWO: Jesse Jackson said something bad about him. Jesse, of course, still supports his campaign, but he hasn’t figured out that the mic is always on… or maybe he just thinks they’re not made very well. I’ve seen several of Barack’s speeches and he’s never had a condescending tone. He’s obviously well-educated and intelligent and that’s good.
I’ve been supporting Obama’s campaign indirectly for a while now. I even got the taint of party affiliation on me, so I could vote for him in the primary. The guy’s not infallible though. Let’s talk about why we’ll have to keep an eye on him after we vote for him.
1. He’s not as anti-lobbyist as he’d like you to think.
See Obama’s K Street project and the excellent, source-citing Obama won’t accept money from lobbyists… or will he?.
2. He supports, but then declines public financing for his campaign.
See Obama opts out of public funding.
3. He supports a bill that legalizes the Bush-ordered illegal warrantless wiretapping.
See Obama’s support for the FISA “compromise” and MoveOn.org’s call for him to honor his support of a filibuster.
None of these are deal breakers. I’ll still vote for the guy. I’m still loyal to the lesser-of-two-evils philosophy, so I don’t have a choice.
Now, if we really want to dig into this issue, our Democratic congress is going to look really bad. If you have a little over 6 minutes, I’ll let Keith Olbermann and Jonathan Turley explain:
I’ve never had my voter registration tainted with party affiliation, but I’m willingly getting some “Democrat” slopped on my record, so I can vote for Obama in today’s primary.
It’s kind of bittersweet. I think Bill was the best president we’ve had in my lifetime and I don’t dislike Hillary nearly as much as I do most other senators, but as a staunch Lesseroftwoevilsist I have to at least pretend my vote for Obama is going to be counted.
Are you stupid?
A current look at Primary and Caucus results shows Hillary beating Obama 306 to 235. If I’ve done the math right, that’s 306 jerks who think we should just let the Bush and Clinton families take turns in the Whitehouse. Well, that’s too bad, because it’s not going to happen.
It’s pretty simple really. McCain has cross-party appeal. Nominally Democratic Joe Sixpack would have loved to have voted for McCain 8 years ago and he’s been chomping at the bit to get a chance to do so ever since.
Hillary… oh, Hillary. Most Republicans hate her with a passion. They don’t have a really good reason to hate her, but that doesn’t make their hate less real, just irrational. You can’t argue with that kind of thing. Oh yeah, a lot of Democrats hate her too. They don’t have a reason and don’t need one… although there are plenty.
You still have time. There are enough delegates out there to turn this thing around. Obama gives the best speeches this side of JFK and he’s electable, so please do the right thing.
Plus, I swear, if Hillary gets the nomination and loses the election, I’m done with you jerks for good. There’s no reason for the Democratic party to even pretend to play in presidential politics if all it does is roll over and hope for a pat on the belly from the GOP.
One more thing.
Will.I.Am wrote a song based on one of Obama’s speeches. Does Hillary get songs made out of her speeches? No. No she doesn’t.
Stay home.
Disconnect your internet.
Throw away your phone, fax, carrier pigeon and smoke signal kit.
Get sterilized.
Say it with me: “President McCain”
You better get used to it, because you’re making it possible.
Jerks.
